Do your Federal taxes FREE!

Published by psynopsis under free stuff Edit This

As you know tax season is themselves already here, and many of us pay accountants to do our taxes for us. Although many do their taxes themselves. I recently did my taxes myself, i used TurboTax. It’s absolutely free to do your federal taxes using the basic free edition. It’s also extremely easy, all you do is fill in some personal info then complete the federal tax form. After you complete it, it’s checked for errors and then you can efile it. Efiling is easier than sending the form by mail and it’s faster as well. But what about State taxes? Well, you can also efile your state taxes but Turbotax along with any other program that does your taxes charges a fee. The great thing about Turbotax is you can choose to have them charge the amount requested from your refund, although i think it’s better to use your credit or Debit card as you know there won’t be any misunderstandings. Turbotax charges 29.95 for State taxes but i think that this price is more reasonable than what accountants charge. They also reduce the amount it takes us to fill out the forms and send them through traditional mail. Turbotax also includes Help support from other taxpayers who can answer your questions and have similar questions. If you want to take advantage of this free resource visit

Increase Traffic Part 2

Submit articles to article directories, like i said before in another post. Directories are a great place to get more exposure!

While submitting articles to article directories, you will be required to fill up a biography text box. Provide a short paragraph about yourself and add a link to your web page. Links can also be added in the article itself where appropriate.

Submitting articles to directories is a good way to reach out to more audience. If your article provides valuable content these audiences will most probably be interested about your web page and thus pay your site a visit.

Do not restrict your submission to just a few directories. Submit to as many directories as possible. Backlinks from these articles provides vital flow of traffic to your site.

Submit URLs to directories.

When directories place a direct link to your web page it helps to improve traffic to your page and also your Page Rank. Submission of web page must be submitted to the correct category in the directories for maximum traffic flow. It will take some time for you to decide on which category your web page belong to but it is worth the time spent.

Some directories will require users to place a small button or a text link to the article directory. Remember to place the links if it is required of you to do so or else your web page will not be approved.

You will be able to find a giant list of blog directory here. The directories are ranked according to their Google PageRank and Alexa Rank. Very useful website.

Submit URLs to Search Engines

There are billions of web pages online and thousands of them spring up like mushrooms daily. Crawlers from search engines may not crawl into every web page to check them out. Some web pages may not even be listed when a search is done. Hence it is vital for you to submit your URL to search engine so as to remind crawlers to check your site out.

Talking about search engines, the first search engine that pops into your mind will most likely be Google. Yes indeed, Google is the major search engine with probably more searches done than all the other search engines combined.

Submission to major search engines is a must.

Google
Yahoo
Msn

After submission to major search engines you may want to submit your URLs to other search engines.

Submit your E-books to E-book directories

Make your e-books widely available for the public. Write a short biography about yourself and place a link in the e-book back to your website.

Submit Testimonials

If you have tried out some software and feel that it is useful, feel free to email a testimonial about the software to the software creators. Leave some good comments, your name and a link back to your site at the bottom. If the creator find your testimonial useful they will publish it at their website along with your website link.

There are thousands of people who will be reading these testimonials before trying out the software. This generate lots of exposure for your link.

Stuff about Touch Screens on Mobile Phones

Technology is developing at a great pace. Every day or so we see a company come out with a new gadget. The best examples are cell phones. There were days when people used to have huge phone which were called as mobile phones at that time but now things have changed, mobile phones are compact and uber cool. They have all sorts of features in them which make them something more than mobile phones. Nowadays with a mobile you can make calls, listen to music, watch movies, take photos, etc. But now it looks like the buttons generation of mobile phones is coming to an end, touchscreens are slowly crawling in. Touch screens have huge screen sizes and are pretty user friendly as well. Well, touch screens have their own pros and cons but for that we need to know the different touchscreens. Different touch screens? Yeah! There are basically three types of touch screens used in mobile phones these days. Lets discuss them briefly:

1. Resistive Touchscreen:
Resistive touchscreens are the most widely used touch screens in mobile phones. They are cheap and resistant to water and dust, but they get easily scratched and cannot be used with sharp objects. You can use any object to touch it, for instance finger, stylus, etc. You need to apply a bit of pressure in order to press the touchscreen. They have a good lifespan of about 35 million clicks.

The screen is basically of two layers and there’s a small plastic dots layer between the two layers. Electricity is supplied through each one of the layers and in the event of contact, a chain is formed. The amount of the electricity, passing between the layers is then measured, in order to determine the point of touch. The biggest con of these type of touchscreens is that it can’t recognize two touches at the same moment. In addition to this they are more prone to damages and the sensitivity reduces when it gets scratched. Moreover only 85% of the light emitted by the screen is let out.

Examples of Resistive touchscreens: HTC diamond, LG Viewty

2. Capacitive touchscreen:
Capacitive touchscreens are basically of two types- one that can recognize multiple touches simultaneously and the other which cannot. These type of touchscreens are costlier than the resistive types. They are scratch, moisture and dust-proof.

This type of touchscreen employs just one layer known as grid. It’s covered with an electroconductive material which provides continuous current with a certain frequency. When screen is touched with an object emitting a constant electric flow, for example a human finger (the human body generates electricity), a change in the current occurs and that’s how the contact point is determined.

It has an extremely long life of about 225 million clicks. In addition to this it lets through about 92% of the light emitted by the screen. There’s one serious disadvantage- it can’t be touched with just any object that you may like.

Examples of Capacitive touchscreens: Apple iPhone, LG Prada, Samsung F480

3. Infrared touchscreens:
Infrared touchscreens are the most expensive of the all the three mentioned here. It doesn’t require physical force, just a gentle touch is enough. In addition to this it is not influenced by dust, moisture or scratches. Moreover it’s the most durable compared to the other ones. They are basically of two types: optical and heat-sensitive.

This optical type uses infrared beams, which are not visible to the human eye. It works, using a number of sensors, arranged above and around the screen, forming a grid of invisible beams. If an object (finger or a stylus) touches the display, it interrupts the rays in a certain area and thus the touch point is determined. It has a lifespan of about 7 years. It suffers from a serious disadvantage- a strong ambient light can have a negative impact on its productivity.

The heat-sensitive type is the widely used one, but it is rarely used in screens. It is applied in other components of mobile devices like buttons. The best examples are Samsung SGH-E900 and Samsung U600, which can only be touched with warm objects. It suffers from one serious drawback- If your finger is frozen in winter and you touch this phone it won’t respond to your finger as its cold.

Have you noticed the new Google icon?

Published by psynopsis under Uncategorized Edit This

Google recently got a new icon, i noticed it a few days ago. At first i thought it was an icon from some other site, i finally saw that there was a small “g” in the icon. I hope Google sticks with this one, they had two in the past on was a plain white “G” and another one was the word “google”. I like this one except you have to look at it very carefully to finally determine what it is. I know i posted this a few weeks late but i never got around to finish this. You may have already noticed that they changed the logo.

FireWire

Published by psynopsis under Tech support Edit This

This post is provided by Howstuffworks.com
by Jeff Tyson and Julia Layton

You have probably heard the term FireWire if you have any interest in digital video — or maybe you know it as Sony i.Link or as IEEE 1394, the offical name for the standard. FireWire is a way to connect different pieces of equipment so they can easily and quickly share information.
Originally created by Apple and standardized in 1995 as the specification IEEE 1394 High Performance Serial Bus, FireWire is very similar to Universal Serial Bus (USB). The designers of FireWire had several particular goals in mind when they created the standard:

Fast transfer of data
Ability to put lots of devices on the bus
Ease of use
Hot-pluggable ability
Provision of power through the cable
Plug-and-play performance
Low cabling cost
Low implementation cost

What is FireWire?

FireWire 400 sockets
FireWire is a method of transferring information between digital devices, especially audio and video equipment. Also known as IEEE 1394, FireWire is fast — the latest version achieves speeds up to 800 Mbps. At some time in the future, that number is expected to jump to an unbelievable 3.2 Gbps when manufacturers overhaul the current FireWire cables.
You can connect up to 63 devices to a FireWire bus. Windows operating systems (98 and later) and Mac OS (8.6 and later) both support it.

Let’s say you have your digital camcorder connected to your home computer. When your computer powers up, it queries all of the devices connected to the bus and assigns each one an address, a process called enumeration. FireWire is plug-and-play, so if you connect a new FireWire device to your computer, the operating system auto-detects it and asks for the driver disc. If you’ve already installed the device, the computer activates it and starts talking to it. FireWire devices are hot pluggable, which means they can be connected and disconnected at any time, even with the power on.

Basically the older version of the USB Cable!

How to increase site traffic! Part 1

Part 1

1. High quality content
2. Unique Content
3. Fresh content
4. Join related forums
5. Leave comments in blogs

High quality content

This is probably one of the most crucial ways of attracting visitors to your site in the long run. Billions of Internet searches are done online daily with one goal in mind; the hunt for information.

Now lets ask ourselves why do we do searches online? Why do we hunt for information?
The answer is simple, to satisfy our thirst for information and to get educated about the topic that we are pondering about. Any content that does not serve to educate and inform readers will be deemed as low quality content.

Thus quality content is extremely important. Users will not favour low quality content. This implies that you will not be able to retain visitors to your site in the long run.

Unique content

Next factor will be how unique your content is. Imagine doing a search on ‘how to make money online’ and all the website offers the same technique and refer users to the same ‘money making’ websites.

How do you think the searcher will feel when they come across your site and find that it is no different from all the other sites out there? They probably close the window after browsing through your un-unique content for less than 15 seconds. Furthermore searchers will not remember your domain name, this implies a drop in return visitors.

Unique content is a huge factor in attracting high traffic flow.

Fresh content

Fresh content also plays a major role in helping to increase site traffic. Lets ask oursevles why is website like YouTube so popular? Firstly it is because of the great video provided by users from all over the world. Many users provides quality video that are unique, this brings us to our very first point, high quality and unique content.

Secondly it is because videos are being uploaded constantly. There are more than 65 000 video uploads per day in YouTube. This keeps the site content fresh. Every time when a YouTube user log onto the Internet they will make it a priority to visit YouTube.

Why? Simply to check out what’s new on YouTube.

This can be applied to your own website as well. Update new content constantly to keep visitors coming back frequently, to check out what’s new on your site. Preferably update your site once a day or at least twice a week to keep the stream of visitors flowing in.

You probably will not be able to see results in the short run. It takes plenty of time and effort to build up a reputation for your site but once it is up and running well, you will see that it is high quality, unique and fresh content that keeps visitors coming back.

Join related forums

One of the ways to get people to know that your blog or website exist is by spreading the news of your existence through forums. Forums are powerful tools that can help increase site traffic.

Point #1: Join the correct forum

If you are doing a blog on gardening it will be advisable to join a forum on gardening in order to fully publicize your blog. The rule is joining the forum that is related to the site that you are trying to promote.

Point #2: Be helpful and professional

Answer questions with accuracy and precision. Provide valuable insights, opinions and information for forum users. You may ask, how is being helpful related to publicizing my site?

By being helpful and answering question in a professional way, you are portraying yourself as an expert in your niche. It garners forum users trust in you and your content. This will be extremely useful when it comes to publicizing your website.

Point #3: Publicize your website without breaking forum rules

Different forums have different set of rules, which members must abide to. Some forums allow URLs in signature while others do not. If the forum that your join allows, by all means place your website URL in the signature with a brief and friendly description of your site. If the forum does not allow then don’t do it. You can publicize your website through posting in forum threads.

I said posting, not spamming. While helping forum members out, you may want do include a URL to certain pages in your website that has valuable information which can help answer the post.
I suggest you to provide the URL straight to the article that is useful not just to the index page of your site. Forum members may have a difficult time locating your article and may see you as an unhelpful member.

Point #4: Never spam your URL

Spamming your URL will only make you look amateurish. It will not build up your reputation. In contrary, spamming will serve to tarnish you and your website’s reputation.

Yahoo! Answer

Yahoo! Answer is a page in Yahoo that provides a platform for users to post questions and help others to provide an answer. It is a useful tool for helping websites to improve traffic. Similar to helping our in forums, be helpful, be professional and provide your URL where appropriate.

Leave comments in blogs

When visit other blogs related to the subject of your webpage, you may choose to leave comments in their blogs and sign off with your name and site URL This is a good way to draw traffic from other sites to your own, however it may not work every time. The blogger may choose to delete your comment so as not to help you advertise your URL.

Take note, whatever comments you make can serve to build up your reputation or destroy it, hence think before leaving any comments. Point #2 and #4 in ‘Join related forums’ applies here.

How long has Apple been around?

I just realized that Apple Inc. has been around for a very long time! I am not sure if it’s older than Microsoft or younger but it has been a few decades.
Well i am here to talk about the Mac Mini. I did not know what a Mac Mini was a few days ago, surprisingly i had already seen one. The Mac Mini is a very, very small Desktop computer only 6.5 inches square and 2 inches tall. It’s external power supply is almost bigger than the computer itself. This mini computer had already been introduced in a 2005 Macworld & Expo. Although it has had it’s upgrades and some remodeling. This Desktop is somewhat affordable it depends on how you see it. If you like and can buy computers that are one thousand dollars or more then you would find this Desktop cheap. if you feel like buying an iPod that’s 300 or more then you would find this too expesive, not extravagant but not cheap either. The price is $500 with out taxes. The mini Mac has a Mac OS X Leopard and software like Safari and iLife. I have to say Apple has really outdone themselves the software they produce is fantastic! I don’t know how they will continue without Steve Jobs!
