Why we can’t have Intelligent Life!
We think of Robots as being the last frontier of science or the whole goal of science. Well, since we are so close to finally creating artificial intelligence have we ever though of the consequences? If we have learned anything from Hollywood is that when humans transcend into artificial life, humans usually get killed, enslaved, or the whole world is put into peril. Some of the movies that portray this very well are Terminator and I Robot. These movies show what can possibly happen or what will happen. Of course, we can’t say for sure that this is possible anyway. I mean evil is human nature right? Robots can’t have feelings even if they are intelligent, in fact it wasn’t even meant for humans until Eve ate the forbidden fruit.
Well, Robots could do us harm without trying to or meaning to. This could be done if the instructions are misinterpreted an example would be if they are programed to protect us. This is a good command correct? Well what if they try to protect us from ourselves? That would be no more activities for anyone, sports would be banned, watching movies, overeating, no suicide attempts, it would be horrible! They would probably take over our task-force as well, who wouldn’t “hire” someone or something if they can do a perfect job. This would mean depression would skyrocket, those used to work would take it very bad. I mean look at the increasing depression on everyone who gets laid-off due to our failing economy.
In my opinion Robots would be the salvation of human beings. They would provide protection that humans can’t give. A human can easily be killed, bribed, fooled and what can we say about our fitness these days. Less work for humans means more time for recreations like exercising, reading, spending time with the family and be relaxed. Of course, all this can be accomplished only if the government agrees to certain things like everyone would get an even paycheck no one would get or less. That would be hard because you would get paid not to work. Who would agree to this? A solution could be that everyone owns their own robot, given to them at birth to guard them, like a guardian angel. This Robot would work in place of that person. All this would seem like a sci fi movie, and would be very confusing and complex. Anyway, i am glad we don’t think we will have to worry about this in our lifetime!
