How do we deal with bacterial resistance to antibiotics?
Everyone knows that if you use antibiotics for every little bacterial infection, there is bound to be one that survives and reproduces, making it’s offsprings resistant to drugs. There’s a new way we can stop this, and that’s by seeking nature’s help. Of course, every living thing has a natural predator, even us (death). That means, since bacteria are living things they must have natural predators right? So what biologists are trying to do know is find the predator of a harmful bacteria and let it feed. Of course some bacteria are harmful themselves, but this practice is still being modified. If we think about it, we might not have to worry about resistance. Perhaps this new discovery will replace antibiotics and vaccines, but that would be in a few hundred years. The picture below shows a predatory bacteria eating an E.coli bacterium (the one that looks like a waning crescent) being digested. This just proves nature has had solutions for every problem, and we have still more to discover. Tomorrow’s post will be on search engines!
