Twistori

Published by psynopsis under Websites Edit This

Okay, so you’re the biggest twitter user in the world right? Well, you must know about Twistori.com then? I thought not. Twistori.com is a website that is the first step in an ongoing social experiment, based on twitter. Inspired by wefeelfine and drawing data from summize, and hand-crafted by amy hoy and thomas fuchs.

Basically Twistori is an unexplainable website. You can see what everyone who Twitters and posts anything with the lines I love, Hate, Believe, Think, Feel, Wish. If you decide to take a look at this site, you will find that it’s very inspirational. It also gives you a weird feeling, I see what the creators are trying to make everyone see. Every human hates, loves, believes, wishes something. Even if that something is materialistic or it makes completely no sense.

It’s shopping time!

I got my paycheck a week ago, so I decided to stimulate the economy and buy myself a new laptop. Buying a desktop computer or in my case, a laptop, is really difficult. Not only are prices extremely high but some of us don’t need a 2 or 3 thousand dollar machine, if the only thing you need to do with it, is check email.

I only needed something that would allow me to get on the internet, and since all computers have this capability, I had hundreds to choose from. Of course the price and capabilities do narrow them down. Here are some tips to help you buy a new economic computer.

hp_paviliondv6000-350.jpg

First, Do some research.

When buying a new computer, whether it’s a desktop or a laptop, you have to find a model or models you are interested in. Usually Google, can help you in your search. Or if you want a more specific and well researched search, try these links. They are reviews written by the editor and by contributors who have bought the product and want to share their opinion. Also, decide whether you want a Mac or a PC.

For Laptops check Here

The second most important thing is…

Buying ONLY the computer and not the extra software added in by the retailer. Retailers try to throw in everything they can, with the computer. Whether, it’s antivirus, spyware or warranty they will end up increasing your price by at least a $100 dollars. I have found that it is better to buy all software separately.

In some cases you can get decent antivirus programs free as well as spyware. of course, warranty is something you may want included but I personally never buy it or need it. Through my experience I have found out, warranty doesn’t cover everything that can possibly happen to your device and sometimes you never need it. If you are willing to pay for warranty just in case, make sure you check what is covered and what is not, and if it applies to things that can happen in your life.

For me, finding the perfect laptop ended when I found an HP Pavilion dv6910us on sale, at a local retailer. It had some extras included like a built in web cam and bluetooth. The only things it lacked were an antivirus software and warranty, but I soon installed Comodo’s antivirus and as for the warranty, I am being very careful with my new laptop. I hope your new PC of Mac hunting experience goes well and you find what you wanted in an affordable price.

How to fix the “Firefox is already Running…” Problem

Published by psynopsis under Tech support Edit This

Firefox was working fine one day, then the next a box keeps coming up” Firefox is already running but not responding. To open a new window you must first close the existing firefox process or restart your system” I restarted it but nothing changed. Checked the task manager, and it wasn’t running. Tried to uninstall it, than reinstall but that didn’t work. Does anyone know a solution to this annoying problem?

firefoxalreadyrunning.png

A few days ago I accidently deleted my Firefox profile, thus it wouldn’t let me open Firefox, I kept getting the error mentioned above. This was because it was looking for a profile that no longer exists. Here are two ways to fix it:

First way is, going to: Windows Defender

If you have Windows Vista, then you have Windows Defender. Sometimes it is located in your task bar, or you can make it come up, if you log off and log back in. It’s a small document thumbnail picture, usually with a small red circle and a bar through it. If you can’t find it or you want to do it manually, the directions are below.

wind.jpg

You can access it by going to Security on your control panel. There you will see Windows defender, click tools at the top. Then you get Tools and Settings, look for Software Explorer, click on it and you will get a list of all programs on your computer. There is a category bar located at the top, choose “Currently Running Programs” and scroll down for FireFox, click on it and choose end process located under the description. By far this is the easiest fastest way to fix this problem. But, it may not always work.

windows-defender-software-explorer1.PNG

The second way is going to:

Command prompt (start -> run –> cmd), then I changed directories until I was in: c:\program files\mozilla firefox\, from here I ran: firefox.exe -profilemanager

So it would be:

C:\program files\mozilla firefox\firefox.exe -profilemanager

This could be different depending on your configuration. After running that, the profile manager popped up. I deleted my old profile and created a new one, and I was good to go.

Hope this helps anyone who might encounter this problem. Cheers.

iWon!

Published by psynopsis under Websites Edit This

Yesterday, I got bored of searching for stuff on Google and checking my emails so I decided to play some games instead. You know how, if you try to Google websites to play games you get all kinds of weird websites, were they ask you to pay to play or they just seem infested with malware? Well, I have and they really get on my nerves. So, I remembered a site I liked and I had previously played games on (iWon.com). The reason I like this website so much is because you, not only get to play games like Collapse and Bejeweled, but you can also win cash and prizes like $10 dollar gift cards from Amazon. The only catch is, you have to create and account and earn points. The account is free and you earn points everytime you play and win in a game, so it’s super easy.

iwon.png

The only thing I have won so far is a $10 dollar gift card, and I have entered in sweepstakes to win money starting from $10 to thousands of dollars but I haven’t won, it’s sort of like the lottery. Anyway, if you want to play some games and don’t want a bunch of ads and possible malware infections got to iWon.com and if you win something leave a comment!

What will happen to all my accounts online, after I die?

Like most internet users, we have created hundreds of accounts online. We have made friends from all over the world, through forums, online communities; such as Facebook and Myspace, or blogs. Unlike us, those accounts are immortal, they will last forever in the cyberworld. Unfortunately, we don’t have that opportunity. So, have you ever thought of what it would happen to all those accounts if something were to happen to you. Who would let your friends know, about your death or if you were still alive but unable to use the computer?

Fortunately, I found a really cool site. You enter your information; like your passwords, your account usernames, your friends (and if you have secret bank accounts, you can let your relatives know, we can’t take any assets with us, might as well leave it for others to use) (unless your greedy, and would rather let it rot in the bank, I think I would probably do that). The site is Legacy Locker, you can visit it at legacylocker.com.

lll.jpg

This is How it works

Legacy Locker is easy to use and understand. First, you create an account and fill out your profile with your basic information (address, phone numbers, etc). Next, you enter verifiers, the people who you completely trust to handle information in the unfortunate event of your passing. The next step is to identify all your online assets, entering the Website, username, and password for each asset. As you enter assets, you’ll assign them to your beneficiaries, the people to whom you wish to pass on your sensitive information. In addition to online assets, you can also create Legacy Letters, notes which get electronically delivered to friends, loved ones, or colleagues. Think of your Legacy Locker similar to a safety deposit box, it’s a secure place to store important assets - only online.

Once your Legacy Locker is set up, you can always come back and add, edit, or remove assets. It’s easy to update, and you can do it from any Internet-connected computer, anywhere in the world. This way, when you change passwords, or create new accounts, you can protect them with Legacy Locker just a few minutes later.

The final part on how Legacy Locker works is just as straightforward, though we know it’s not the most pleasant topic. When a Legacy Locker customer passes away, one of their verifiers must visit the website to report the death. At this point, the service uses a safe combination of human oversight with secure technology to ensure the user’s assets are properly dispersed. Emails to beneficiaries are sent with secure, embedded links that contain the assets or Legacy Letters. It’s never fun to think about our own mortality, but we very much hope that Legacy Locker provides a valuable service to help ease the transition when a loved one passes away.

Facebook’s New Design!

Published by psynopsis under Techno News, Websites Edit This

If you have a Facebook account rejoice! They have finally changed the layout. I personally like it, it’s way more organized, the pictures are rounded and the pages don’t look cheap anymore. The design is a forward thinking design, inspired by streaming content services like Twitter. Executives from Facebook have said that they see “the stream” as the next evolution of how we interact on the Web.

facebook.jpg

Facebook has placed a voting poll, for your opinion on the new design. Although, 94% of Facebook users have already voted against it. I think it still has a chance, if every user casts their vote. So, if you have an account what are you waiting for?! I really believe Facebook needed a new layout, Myspace got one, so why not Facebook? If I was Facebook’s creator I would have made the change without democracy! To vote click on the blue sentence!

Mosquito Ringtones!

Today, I found something really amazing! A mosquito Ringtone! surprisingly I had never heard of it before. If you don’t know what a mosquito ringtone is, well let me explain. It’s a ringtone but only kids and teens can hear it, because the frequency of the ringtone is so high, most adults can’t hear it. Apparently, adults start to loose their hearing around their of high frequency sounds around their 30’s.

mosquito-ringtone.jpg

We’ve all heard that human hearing extends covers the frequencies from 20Hz to 20,000Hz. Hz is the abbreviation for Hertz, meaning cycles per second. It’s true nominally that we human beings can hear these frequencies, but that’s under optimal conditions. Like I said ,for most of us the, highest frequency we can hear gets lower and lower every year of our adult life. This effect can be worsened if we listened to loud music often when we were younger. By the time we’re 30 years old, most of us can’t hear anything higher than about 14,000Hz, if that. Mosquito Ringtones use 17,000Hz.

This is kind of cool, now everyone who can hear high frequncy noises will be able to hear their phone ring in school, without the teacher knowing. This could be really useful but, wait! even if you know your phone is ringing you still can’t take the call! I guess everything has a flaw! Although, you might know when you received a text message!

If you want to test your ears to see if you can hear the sound, click on the audio button below, it’s from jetcityorange.com, a website that plays the sound and you can download it in a mp3 format. I tried it, and I heard a stinging low sound. I am not sure if that’s what you would normally heard, it didn’t really bother me, although after a few minutes my head started to hurt. I asked a 7 year old to tell me if she heard it, when I pressed play she immediately covered her ears and said it was too loud. I am guessing 7 year olds get the full effect. (Duh!)

Watch-movies.net is not gone

Published by psynopsis under Techno News Edit This

Most of us know about this website, were we can watch any movie we want. I had previously posted about this site, on this blog. it’s free and no strings attached (just wanted to mention it). A few days ago I had wanted to watch the new Twilight movie, so I tried going to the site. Surprisingly, I got an error at first. So I thought it was my spelling as the name of the site is really confusing.

Anyway, I realized that the site was removed I imagined. But today, while searching for it on Google (I hadn’t given up hope) I found a link. I followed it and there it was, watch-movies.net. The site hasn’t been removed, it just moved to a new domain. The new domain is as follows- WATCH-MOVIES-LINKS.NET
you can still watch free movies!

Break.com Get paid for uploading Videos!

Published by psynopsis under Websites Edit This

I have known about this site for a while now. I haven’t posted anything about it because I didn’t think anyone would want to know. Okay, the site is Break.com, as you can see. This site is very very similar to YouTube. You upload any video you want, and everyone in the world will see it. What’s the difference between this site and Youtube?

Well the difference is this site pays! And it pays good. If they accept your video, as they have to make sure the video you submit is something others will be interested in. You get $25 if the video appears in the gallery and get this 2,000 if it appears on the Homepage! I haven’t uploaded any videos, because I don’t think I have anything good enough to upload. If you get a lot of of views on Youtube you should totally sign up on Break.com. I wish Youtube started to pay! But why would they if they get millions of videos uploaded everyday for free.

Oh, I almost forgot to mention this, Break is paying $1,000 dollars for original April Fool’s prank videos!

Get Chunkit!

Everytime I use Google I waste a ton of time finding what I am looking for. If you use Google, you know that the only thing you get in the search results are the title of the webpage and a sentence containing the keyword. Well, now Tigerlogic has come up with a new way to search. They created Chunkit, a program designed to enhance the results of search engines and lower the time invested on searching.

At first, I didn’t think I needed Chunkit because most of the time I searched Google with the intention of visiting every result. I almost never search any engine for a specific site or result. I decided to try Chunkit anyway, you have to download it, but it’s available at their official site.

Chunkit, basically collects “chunks” of information from all the results you get from Google. It’s not another search engine or anything, it just works with the one you any search engine you want. You can even use it with websites that allow you to search, an example is Yahoo Answers. Instead of just getting one sentence as a description, you get a whole paragraph. Basically why it’s called a chunk! I provided a Youtube video explaining more. You can download the program at http://tinyurl.com/Chunkit
